The land at Sutton Hall Golf Club is an ancient site and has some documentd history. Firstly being
owned by one Hoetei de Sutton in 1100, then by a Sir Peter Dutton who had a mansion here in 1248, followed by his descendent John Warburton who built the present house in 1480, which has some of the medieval construction still surviving today. |

Becketts Wood, which borders the length of th 17th hole was named after Allen and Samuel Beckett two eighteenth century farmers. Lowes Wood in the centre of the course was named after Henry Lowe from the nineteenth century. Many of the holes are called after the eighteenth century field names in which they are situated. The present owners started the construction of Sutton Hall golf Club at the beginning of 1994 with the design work undertaken by Ace Golf Ltd and course building by Michael Lowe and Associates. The course opened for play on October 14th 1995 with the clubhouse open for use in October 1996. |
